Evening shadows crept across the office space in Wolf Lake Consulting's converted house. The bustling room, filled with four desks and matching chairs, was where Thomas, Chelsey, and Raven met to collaborate. They bent over the photographs before them.

"Can you believe someone would actually do this?" Chelsey shuddered, her dark waves of hair brushing against her shoulders as she examined the intricate designs etched into the bones.

"Definitely the work of a demented mind," Raven said.

“The package containing the new carving arrived at the office this morning,” Thomas said. “Like the last one, it came wrapped in plain brown paper and tied with a string.”

Claire and the forensic team were currently poring over the package and carvings, trying to decipher any clues that might lead them to the person responsible. He shifted from one picture to the next.

"Have you heard anything from Claire about the origin of these bones?" asked Chelsey.

"Nothing yet. She's still examining them with her team. I can't help but feel like we're dealing with a serial killer here."

"Perhaps, but we can't jump to conclusions. We need to gather more information."

The bone carvings were a dark enigma, and as the evening wore on, it became clear that solving this case would push them to their limits. Chelsey picked up the latest edition of The Bluewater Tribune, which had arrived at Wolf Lake Consulting earlier that day. She unfolded the newspaper and showed it to Thomas.

"Look at this," she said.

The headline screamed in bold, black font: "The Carver Strikes Again. Serial Killer on the Loose in Nightshade County?" The words were plastered across the top of the front page, dominating the layout.

Thomas stared at the headline, his eyes narrowing in disapproval. "The Carver?" He shook his head. "That's what they're calling him? Sounds like something out of a bad horror movie."

"Regardless of the name, the media is all over this. They're speculating that we have a serial killer on our hands."

Raven scratched her arm. "I don't understand why there has been no communication from this . . . carver person. No letters, no phone calls, just the figurines. What is he after?"

"Perhaps he gets a thrill from watching us scramble to figure things out."

"Whatever his motives are, we need to get ahead of this," he said, his jaw tightening as he read the ominous headline. He felt a deep sense of responsibility for the safety of Nightshade County and its residents. These bone carvings were more than just a sick game. They were a threat to the community he had sworn to protect.

Raven nodded. "We can't afford to let this escalate any further. If we want to understand this killer's motive and behavior, we need to dig into his psychology. Maybe he came from a history of violence or has a personal connection to the victims."

"Good point," Chelsey chimed in. “We should go through more recent missing persons reports and see if there's a pattern. Perhaps the Carver has a type. Thomas, have you called the Behavioral Analysis Unit?”

“I did.
